Punish the Greed, Not Patients in Need

Focus on the Real Source of Waste and Abuse

The budget reconciliation bill, known as the “Big, Beautiful Bill,” is front and center in the minds of healthcare advocates, legislators, and much of the public at large. One of the key components to the bill: Medicaid and CHIP cuts to the tune of at least $800 billion.

Proponents of the bill argue that these cuts are ways to root out waste, fraud, and abuse. If they’re truly serious about that goal, vulnerable patients are not the place to look for savings. Corporate insurers are by far largest and most blatant abusers of federal taxpayer dollars; reining them in will result in up to $140 billion in savings. That sounds like the place to start, not taking healthcare away from millions of people already struggling.

Our CEO, Mark Craig, explains further in his most recent piece for The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. We are seemingly just weeks from a Senate vote on this bill. If it passes, the repercussions for all Americans, not just those on Medicaid, are highly concerning.

If you are moved to contact your senator, every call helps.
